How to Use Notebook

Increase your productivity with Assembly’s Notebook task management feature. Notebook allows you to create and manage tasks for yourself (and soon for others!) in your Assembly. You can plan out your tasks for the day/week/month by setting due dates and dragging and dropping your tasks in the order you plan to work on them.

Who can use this feature?

Everyone in Assembly has access to their own Notebook! 

What to expect
  • You can create tasks in Today, Upcoming, Unscheduled, and Overdue sections.
  • Your task will automatically move between sections depending on the scheduled due date. 
  • You can also drag and drop tasks within each section or between sections.
  • You can edit a task and change the due date at any time.
  • You can mark a task as completed or archive it.

How to create a task

  1. From my.joinassembly.com, click Notebook in the left menu.
  2. From the top of the Today, Upcoming, Unscheduled, or Overdue sections, click +Type here to add a new task.
  3. Type in your task
  4. Hit enter or click outside of the task to save your task.
  5. You can adjust the due date after the task is created.

Managing task due dates

Today section
  1. All tasks created in the Today section will have a default due date of Today’s date (the same date that the task was created).
  2. Any task that has a due date of today’s date will appear in the today section.
  3. To change the due date, click the due date and select a new date. You can also remove the due date.
  4. Your task will automatically move to the Upcoming, Unscheduled, or Overdue section depending on the updated due date.
Overdue section
  1. All tasks created in the Overdue section will have a default due date of yesterday’s date.
  2. Any incomplete task whose due date occurs in the past will appear in the overdue section.
  3. To change the due date, click the due date and select a new date. You can also remove the due date.
  4. Your task will automatically move to the Today, Upcoming, or Unscheduled section depending on the updated due date.
Upcoming section
  1. All tasks created in the Overdue section will have a default due date of 1 week from the date the task was created
  2. Any task with a due date that is not Today or Overdue will appear in the Upcoming section.
  3. To change the due date, click the due date and select a new date. You can also remove the due date.
  4. Your task will automatically move to the Today, Unscheduled, or Overdue section depending on the updated due date.
Unscheduled section
  1. All tasks created in the Overdue section will have no due date by default.
  2. To add a due date, click the due date and select a due date. 
  3. Your task will automatically move to the Today, Upcoming, or Overdue section depending on the selected due date.

Editing a task

  1. To edit a task, hover over the task you’d like to edit.
  2. Click the pencil icon to edit the task.
  3. Hit enter or click outside of the task to save your task.

Completing a task

Completed tasks will automatically move to the Completed section in your Notebook. You can mark a task as completed in a couple of different ways:

  1. Click the checkbox next to the task you’d like to mark as completed.
  2. Click the three-dotted menu for that task and select “Move to Completed”.
  3. Click and drag the task from its current section to the Completed section.

Archiving a task

Archived tasks will automatically move to the Archived section in your NotebookYou can archive a task as completed in a couple of different ways:

  1. Click the three-dotted menu for that task and select “Archive task”.
  2. Click and drag the task from its current section to the Archived section.

Moving or rearranging tasks

Tasks can be moved between sections in a couple of different ways:

  • Incomplete tasks will automatically move from Upcoming→Today→ Overdue depending on their due dates.
  • Changing a due take on a task will move it to the corresponding section.
  • Clicking the three-dotted menu for a task will present you with the option to move the task to a different section.
  • Clicking and dragging the task between sections.

Tasks can also be rearranged within a section, to allow you to move the higher priority tasks to the top of the section. To rearrange tasks within a section:

  • Click and drag the task to adjust the position within the section. 

Notebook status indicator

  1. Your left menu will display a blue status indicator telling you the number of tasks you have to do Today, as well as how many Overdue tasks you have.
  2. This number will decrease as you complete the tasks or change their due dates.

And voila!! Your productivity is about to skyrocket. Enjoy :)
