You’ve probably heard good things about Bonusly. It’s often praised as an easy way to roll out peer-to-peer recognition, with quick shout outs and gift card rewards. For many teams, it’s the first step toward building a recognition culture.

But before you commit, it’s worth asking: will Bonusly still work when your team grows?

Many HR leaders and managers find that over time, rewards feel repetitive, global options are limited, analytics don’t go deep enough, and costs rise quickly at scale.

That’s why it’s smart to compare Bonusly with other recognition platforms before signing up.

In this guide, we’ll cover the most common pain points teams faced with Bonusly, the key features to evaluate, and 11 Bonusly alternatives to consider in 2025. By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of which platform fits your culture today and grows with you tomorrow.

Why Organizations Look for Bonusly Alternatives

On paper, Bonusly makes recognition simple. But when HR leaders dig deeper, they often face these common drawbacks in the Bonusly;

1. Repetitive rewards - Gift cards and donations cover the basics, but global teams say it gets stale. Employees want more meaningful, localized options.

2. Shallow analytics - Bonusly shows activity, but doesn’t connect recognition to outcomes like engagement or retention. Leaders need insights they can take to the C-suite.

3. Integration gaps - Slack and Teams work smoothly, but HRIS, payroll, and SSO integrations can feel clunky or incomplete.

4. Costs that don’t scale - At ~$3 per user/month plus rewards, Bonusly feels affordable for 50 employees but expensive at 500. Many teams hit a pricing wall as they grow.

5. Limited global coverage - Strong in the U.S., but thinner internationally. Multi-country teams face gaps in local options, currencies, and compliance.

6. Rigid admin tools - Budget approvals, flexible policies, and audit trails are limited. HR teams often patch together spreadsheets to fill the gaps.

How to Evaluate a Recognition Platform

A recognition program isn’t just about sending points but it’s about building employee engagement that lasts.

The right platform should work for your culture today and still deliver value when your company doubles in size.

So, what should you look for if Bonusly isn’t the long-term fit? The best recognition platforms share a few must-have qualities. Use this checklist as you compare Bonusly competitors:

Core Criteria

1. Recognition Types - Peer-to-peer shout outs are great, but they shouldn’t be the only option. Look for a platform that supports manager recognition, milestone awards, and values-based recognition. That way, every type of contribution gets celebrated.

2. Reward Fulfillment -  Look for a global catalog with the flexibility to add your own perks, branded items, or experiences. This ensures recognition resonates across countries and cultures.

3. Analytics & ROI Tracking - Participation rate is not enough metrics. You need insights that connect recognition to retention, morale, and productivity.

4. Integrations - Slack and Teams are table stakes. The real value comes when recognition connects with HRIS, SSO and payroll for seamless workflows.

5. Admin Controls -  Choose a platform with budget controls, approvals, and audit-ready reporting. Without these, HR teams end up back in spreadsheets, defeating the purpose of automation.

Advanced Factors

1. Built-in engagement tools - Some platforms go beyond recognition with extras like surveys or goal tracking. This gives you a fuller picture of employee morale and performance.

2. Global Compliance - If you have distributed teams, ensure the platform handles tax and compliance across countries.

3. Scalability - Recognition should scale smoothly from 100 employees to 1,000. Pricing, features, and admin tools should grow with you, not against you.

4. Flexibility for Hybrid Teams - Recognition should work as well for remote workers as it does for in-office celebrations.

5. Employee Experience - The best tool is the one people actually use. Prioritize intuitive design, mobile access, and a fun, engaging interface that makes recognition a habit.

1. Assembly: All-in-One Engagement & Recognition

Assembly platform

Assembly is a complete employee engagement platform built to scale with your company.

How to Choose the Right Alternative for Your Company

The “best” Bonusly alternative isn’t the same for every company and depends on what you’re solving for.

If your team is small and budget-conscious, lightweight tools like Nectar or Guusto might make sense. If you’re an enterprise with global operations, Awardco, or Achievers, can deliver the scale and compliance you need.

For culture-focused organizations, Kudos and Motivosity excel at building community and reinforcing values. And if you’re prioritizing employee voice alongside recognition, WorkTango integrates surveys and feedback directly into its platform.

But many HR leaders don’t want to settle for a tool that only solves one piece of the puzzle. They want recognition that feels meaningful, rewards that work across borders, analytics that prove ROI, and engagement features that actually move the needle.

That’s where Assembly fits naturally. Unlike single-purpose tools, Assembly brings recognition, global rewards, engagement surveys, and performance insights into one platform.

Recognition flows seamlessly through Slack or Teams, rewards are flexible and global, and HR leaders finally get dashboards that link recognition to retention and engagement.

It’s not just about giving points but it’s about building a recognition culture that scales with your company and delivers measurable impact.

Final Thoughts & Next Steps

Recognition tools should build a culture that keeps employees engaged, motivated, and connected. That’s why many companies move beyond Bonusly to solutions that deliver measurable impact.

Assembly makes that shift easy. By combining recognition, global rewards, engagement surveys, and ROI dashboards in one platform, Assembly gives you everything you need to prove value and scale a culture of appreciation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best Bonusly alternative for global teams?

For global reach, Awardco, Achievers, and Workhuman have strong catalogs and compliance support. But Assembly stands out as the ultimate solution, combining global rewards with ROI analytics and engagement tools, making it a scalable choice for distributed teams.

Can I migrate data and points from Bonusly easily?

Yes. Most platforms, including Assembly, support data migration. They help transfer points, balances, and historical recognition records so employees don’t lose credit during the transition.

Which tools integrate with Slack and Microsoft Teams?

Almost all leading recognition tools offer Slack and Teams integrations, including Assembly, Nectar, and Kudos. The key difference is how seamless the workflow feels. Assembly, for example, allows recognition to happen natively in chat.

Are there affordable options for startups?

Yes. Nectar and Guusto are often chosen by smaller teams because of their transparent, budget-friendly pricing. For startups that want affordability plus scalability, Assembly provides flexible plans that grow as your team expands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Assembly SOC 2 compliant?

Yes, at Assembly, security is a top priority. Each quarter, we have ongoing security work that is everyone’s responsibility. While we maintain a strong security posture, it was important for us to prove to our customers that we do everything we claim to do. This led us to pursue a SOC 2 Type II report that would provide evidence of our compliance with industry gold-standard security practice.

What's the ROI for employee recognition?

There is study after study showing that employee recognition leads to increased engagement. This in return creates an environment where employees are happier and more motivated which increase productivity and reduces voluntary turnover significantly. In order to filled critical roles, companies tend to spend nearly twice the value of an annual salary. Assembly is an investment in your employees that supports your bottom line.

Does Assembly offer longer-term contracts?

Yes, we will offer contracts for companies with longer-term agreements to help larger customers have more certainty around future costs.

The minimum agreement term is a 12-month subscription.

Does Assembly offer onboarding support?

We do and for FREE! Any new customer needing further support to get started with Assembly to ensure you're set up for success can request custom onboarding support. Improving your employee experience is about much more than just using our amazing software; it’s about transforming your business to create a workplace that people love. That’s much easier to do with the personal support and advice from our passionate people experts.

How much do rewards cost?

At the time of redemption (when your employees exchange their points for a paid reward) you'll pay face value. If a reward is a $10 Amazon gift card, your cost will be $10. All paid rewards are billed for on a monthly basis.

The good news is that you don't have to pay for rewards upfront because we only charge you when points are redeemed, not when they're earned.

Does Assembly offer discounts?

We offer discounts or educational or charitable organizations. In order to secure a discount, you'll first need to book a demo with a customer support specialist.

For all other organizations, we are willing to consider longer-term agreements in exchange for discounts. To set up annual plans or longer, you will need to book a demo with a customer support specialist.

How do I cancel my plan if needed?

If you're on a month to month plan, you can go here and cancel anytime. If you're having concerns or need help setting up your account for success, you can always book a demo with a customer support specialist.

If you're on a longer-term custom plan, you'll need to reach out to your customer support specialist to cancel your account or email us at support@joinassembly.com.

What customizations are available?

Great question! You can customize your core values to match your organization's to boost and track alignment. You can change your currency from the 🏆 emoji (our default) to any emoji of your choice. You can swap our logo for your own. You can also set up company culture rewards such as, "Lunch with the CEO," "Buy a book on us," and so much more!

Who can give or receive recognition?

While we recommend a peer to peer set up where anyone in your organization can give or receive recognition, you can set up Assembly however you want. If you need to limit the people who can give or receive recognition, that's perfectly fine and can be done from your Admin, here.

What integrations are available?

Assembly connects to the tools your employees use every day to offer an easy, seamless experience with minimal change management.

Assembly has integrations with HCM/HRIS systems like ADP, Google, Office 365, and Slack. We also integrate with communication tools like Slack and Teams so you and your employees can access Assembly wherever they work now.

What's your average adoption rate?

That depends on the company's permissions set up. That said, over 90% of the employees on Assembly's platform are recognized on a monthly basis. That means nearly every employee across all of our customers are receiving regular recognition from their peers, managers, or leadership. We're extremely proud of this.

Must rewards be set up to use Assembly?

They are not required. You can use Assembly without having rewards set up. However, we don't recommend it if you intend to have a high adoption and usage rate. You can always keep the costs down by offering internal culture rewards that are fulfilled by you internally.

Are points required to use Assembly?

No, you can remove allowances from anyone or everyone. It's up to you but we do recommend using points whether they're worth a real dollar value or not. Companies that use points have a much higher engagement rate even if those points don't exchange for real dollars.
