Connecting file storage apps to Assembly

Updated on
April 9, 2024

Assembly app connections allow you to connect to any major file storage platform to easily access and search for all important information directly within Assembly. Find information faster, all in one place. To supercharge your search, try out our new Dora AI feature.

Who can use this feature?

  • You must have an account set up with any of the available file storage apps.
  • Any individual user can connect their Assembly account to a file storage app.

What to expect

  • You must be using the new Assembly experience to take advantage of app connections and the search functionality.
  • Once you connect to an app, all of the files you have created or have been shared with you will appear in your Assembly database.
  • Files you have shared with other people in your Assembly will also be visible to those people in their own Assembly (even if they have not connected their Assembly to the app).
    • For example, I created a document for my team, and shared it with userlA@joinassembly.com and userB@joinassembly.com . Once I am connected to the file storage app, User A and User B will both be able to search for this file in their Assembly.
    • For more details, check out our help article on the app syncing process & file visibility.
  • You can search the files based on the contents of the file, i.e.,  text in the document, as well as the title of the document.

Connect to an app

  1. First, make sure you are using the new Assembly version. To switch to the new Assembly version, turn the toggle at the top of your Assembly screen to the ON position.
  2. From the top of the page in the new Assembly experience, click the puzzle icon.
  3. Click ‘Connect new app’.
  4. Select the app you would like to connect to and follow the instructions and click ‘Finish’ when completed.
  5. Once the connection is complete and your files are synced, you will be able to view and search for them in your discover page from the search bar and also in the files page.
  6. NOTE: currently, you can only connect one account for each app in your Assembly.

Disconnect an app

  1. First, make sure you are using the new Assembly version. To switch to the new Assembly version, turn the toggle at the top of your Assembly screen to the ON position.
  2. From the top of the page in the new Assembly experience, click the puzzle icon.
  3. Next to the app you wish to disconnect, hover over the ‘Connected’ button and click ‘Disconnect’.
  4. The disconnection may take a moment while we unsync all of the files from your Assembly.. NOTE: if someone else has connected their Assembly to the same app, you will still be able to access files that have been shared with you even after you have disconnected your app.
